About us

The Book Exchange is a well loved secondhand bookstore & coffee shop. We have sweet treats & quality books on offer as well as a comfortable space to relax in.  The bookstore was established back in 1982. Many years later the store went through a major refurbishment & re-opened in July 2015. The Book Exchange was then sold to a local in November 2016. We are so pleased our community has a welcoming space to enjoy the finer things in life, being great books & wonderful coffee.

We source our coffee beans from Mt Atkinson Coffee, t leaf T provide our delicious range of loose leaf teas while Crafty Baker & Gourmet Gannet create our wonderfully tasty baked goods. We have recently added cold beverages to our offerings also. You'll now find Charlie's quenchers & Phoenix organic juices in store as well as a range of smoothies and frappes.

Our Children's section is ever growing with quality picture & chapter books at brilliant prices. In order to keep kids reading, they have to be in an environment that they can enjoy. We have kid-sized stools & a basket of toys & puzzles to play with while parents browse the store. Children can also sit and draw on the chalk-board table while Mums & Dads enjoy a coffee close by.

We try our best to juggle our FacebookInstagram accounts (keeping up with the cool kids) while we brew the best coffee in the neighborhood. Did we mention we have a fantastic playlist in store?

Although we specialise in secondhand books, we also have a selection of DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, jigsaw puzzles and magazines. We now also stock FRANK Stationery. The journals, notebooks & diaries we we have on offer are seconds (you'll find minor imperfections if you look hard enough) & so are heavily discounted.

With plenty more ideas being thrown around (including live music, poetry readings & market stalls) make sure you keep an eye out for the new goings-on at your local bookstore & coffee shop on the cutest corner in Glen Eden.

Bring in a book and exchange it for another of the same quality & genre for 50% off the marked price.

*Conditions do apply - Not all books are available for exchange. Exchanges are at the discretion of the shop attendant. We reserve the right to refuse your exchange.

This cosy little space is filled with friendly characters, so curl up with a book and a cuppa and the clouds will soon pass you by.

This (The Book Exchange) is so civilised. It is what a bookstore should be.

Thumbs up for the book exchange and cafe at Glen Eden (I shoulda taken a picture). The place is looking fantastic, really nice relaxed vibe, I had an almond milk latte while I browsed and it put me in a nice chilled weekend feeling. Nice kids play bit. Great selection of books. Any book worms - get in there and support these lovely gals. :)

My partner and I only really get to read a good book over the summer holidays, so when we heard the Book Exchange had changed ownership... well we went to grab some bargains. First impressions were great, all the books were organised in order of either author or category... and price range. The books were in great condition and we managed to find many recent additions. The added knowledge that once read, you could then exchange for another book for 1/2 the price was a real bonus. Thoroughly recommend you visit before paying through the nose for new releases at the big brand stores. Supporting a young business woman who is passionate about her work is also awesome. Will be back for some more soon.

The perfect way to relax and unwind is sitting in a big comfy chair with a good book and great coffee in hand. At the recently reopened [The Book Exchange] you can do exactly that! Serving the absolutely delicious [Mt Atkinson coffee] famous in West Auckland all you need to do is search through the abundance of pre loved books to find that perfect read. My long black was on point and there is a great selection of coffees on hand to meet most requirements. They also have a few counter top treats if you like a wee snack with your book and coffee. This place screams old school awesomeness from the old books to the big old vintage armchairs you can sit and relax in. This place is a real gem for young and old and a place you would happily enjoy on your own. “The more that you read, the more you will know.
